I spent nine years making offerings to a patron. Water on Mondays, a candle each month, a clean shelf. I called it a relationship. It was a leash I held out for someone else to take.
I stopped during a winter illness. Nothing came to collect. That told me what I needed to know.
The practice now is discipline and subtraction. One thing each day I would rather avoid. A ledger in ink of every change I have made in myself, and what it cost. I wear no charm and keep no ward. People ask why. Fear does not get a vote.
