Spent three years buying the right candles, the right chalk, the right knife with the right handle, copying circles out of a grimoire by lamplight like a monk on a deadline, and never once did the working. Three YEARS. Then one Tuesday I drew a sigil on a dryer sheet with a borrowed marker, fed it to machine number six at the laundromat, and the thing I wanted showed up before the spin cycle did.

I sold the shelf. I carry a burn on my left thumb from a candle I made far too big, and I work at 3:33 in the afternoon because midnight is for tourists. Done.
