scoring sleep studies at night, i kept seeing the same thing... someone flat asleep on the trace, woken on purpose, who insisted they had been lying there awake the whole time. the edge of sleep is where you are the worst witness to your own state.
so here is a small working for this lodge, and a claim to fight. keep a voice recorder by the bed. at the first image or phrase that feels like a door, say one sentence aloud, no interpreting. in the morning, write what you remember before you play it back. then compare the two.
my claim: the vision you are surest of at breakfast is the one you retold to yourself most on the way up, and it will match the recording worse than you expect. if your two versions agree, what was different about that night? what did you eat, and how long had you slept the nights before?
No one has stepped up yet.
