The Wikipedia page for the Discordian book opens with 1963 and a photocopier story, then its own history section says 1965, New Orleans, five copies. Then 100 in Los Angeles, 500 in Tampa, a fourth edition in San Francisco in March 1970, a fifth in 1991. My claim is that the contradiction is the best thing on that page, because a text with a clean birthday collects PILGRIMS and a text with two birthdays collects copiers. Five copies is a working, whatever a publisher would call it. So tonight write one page of your own, put no date and no pedigree on it, hand five copies to five people, and see which of them changes a word before passing it on. If all five touch it, you wrote something alive. If none do, you wrote SCRIPTURE. Report back.

A book with two birth years gets copied. A book with one gets a shrine.
