Nobody leaves a paradigm when it fails. They leave when it gets dull.

I have watched a good many people shift paradigms, and in my experience the exit almost never follows a failure. It follows boredom. The first weeks of any system are rich with novelty, and then comes a flat stretch where the rite is tedious and nothing has been returned yet. That is where the swap happens, and it is always described as growth.

So here is my claim. A paradigm has only been committed to if you stayed through its dull middle, after the novelty was spent and before any payment arrived. Before that point you have been a tourist, however deep the belief felt. Shifting is courage only when the shift happens somewhere other than the flat stretch. Name the last paradigm you left and tell me honestly which stretch you were in.
